Sheep of the Good Shepherd Cemetery is located at the southeast corner of 22nd Street and 114th Avenue in Watson Township. The cemetery of the Immanuel Lutheran Church was established April 15, 1879. In 1877, a native of Jonkoping, Sweden, Charles Johan Anderson, came to Allegan County. A year and a half later, he bought land in section 32 of Watson township, later purchasing in section 31. He was the first Swedish settler who bought land in this area. He convinced his friend in Indiana and Illinois to come to this area and assist in clearing the woods. This created a little Swedish colony as some of these people bought land and stayed in the area. By 1878, eight families had found permanent homes in this area, and by August 28th they gathered to form a church community. With close ties to their religion, the first church of the Lutheran Congregation in the county was established and was the only one at the present time. On March 3, 1879, Charles Anderson made a contribution of land for a cemetery to the church. Soon after the church accepted the offer, the cemetery was established. The fourteen month old Malvina Christine, daughter of Mr. Charles Anderson was the first one buried in the cemetery during the summer of the same year. She was run over and killed by a train at a crossing near their residence. Within a couple of years, the church was built in Allegan, in 1883. The church is located at 631 Grand Street (M-222) in Allegan, Michigan.
