Many times, during our various trips to antique
stores, yard sales or estate auctions, we run across items that have no
connection to our own family, but pique our interest as we knowthat they belong
to someone.
This page will be available for posting those "found
treasures" for Michigan with hopes of returning them to a descendant.
If you would like to add to this site, please drop

Please Note.... "For Sale" items will not
be posted, but costs for reimbursement (postage etc.)
would be acceptable.

WILCOX SCOTT STEVENS SINGER BARTH GLUESING Posted 8/9/99 |
Hi all; The Kelowna & District Genealogical Society has in their possession an old photo album that was donated to us by a man who found it in a garbage can in a northern B.C. town in 1987. We are looking for family to give it it's proper home. Details; Surnames-Wilcox, Scott, Stevens, Singer, Barth Locations-Allegan, Adrian, Detroit, all in Mich.[1878], Moline-Witicha, Kanas, Sterling, Ill.. A death notice is also included for a Frank Gluesing, who died in the West, perhaps in Washington. It is a large album with many lovely pictures. We would give it to it's rightful owner if they will pay for the shipping. | M. Marie {Loyst] Ablett U.E. |
CRANDALL Posted 8/12/99 |
At an antique shop in Mecosta, Michigan, I purchased a picture
frame containing a photo of a flapper. The woman has short hair
with fingerwaves. She is wearing an extremely wide headband
straight across her head at eyebrow level and is also wearing some
type of filigreed halo at the back of her head. She has long
earrings and is swathed in fur. Her lips are painted a perfect
cupid's bow and her ears are shadowed. She's quite a beauty. I
only wanted the frame and I assumed the woman in the photo was a
star of silent films. She's THAT striking. When I removed the photo I found it is a photograph taken by Moffet or Mollet. The photographer or studio name is hand painted in the lower right corner in red stylized letters. There is a handwritten note at the lower left edge of the photo. The photo was trimmed to fit the frame and some of the letters were cut off. I can read: "?y (probably My) Dear ?le (ole?) Friend "Peggie" (or "Paggie") From ?lyn Crandall 1925. Checking the Social Security index, there was an Evelyn Crandall from Michigan who was born in 1899. The woman in this photograph could have been 26. She appears to be wearing wedding rings. As a rule I throw away photographs that come with the frames I buy. I don't want to create more confusion by adding non-family members to my pile of old family photos. I would hate to discard this one, though. It's absolutely a gem and it came complete with a name. If a family member will contact me, I will be delighted to mail it to them. If no family member contacts me, I will happy to forward it to anyone who would like a photograph from that era. |

Lands Worjik?? A.F. Posnik & Co. Olehefeky?? Stocks Posted 8/22/99 |
I have a photo album of a family that has about 50 photographs in
it. It has some descripts of the pics. written under some of the
phots. Some phots were taken in Lincoln, Mich. as early as 1935
and goes 1937. Also named Memphis( dont know if that is Tenn. or
that you may have a town there by that name).Lake Orion,Brockway,
Port Huron, Lexington and Blue Water Bridge or a few of the
locations that are mention in the writings under photos. Surnames
mentioned: Lands, Worjik ???, A.F. Posnik and Co., Olehefeky ??,
Stocks. Now how I obtained this book? This mail is coming from Dothan, Al.(that is in the southeast corner of Al. 18 miles from Fl. and Ga.) I bought a retirement home here in the early 1991 and the album was there when I bought it. I asked for many years if anyone knew who this book belonged to and no one knew. So as a last resort I thought I would put it on the net. As a genelogist researcher myself, I would very much like for this book to get back up there to a family member or someone that might know of this family. I would be very happy to pay for the postage to get it there. Thank You and Cheers to you and yours, Ray Hutto, 106 Primrose, Dr., Dothan, Al. 36303 |

KERSHAW Posted 8/23/99 |
I have letters from Tom Kershaw to his friend, girlfriend and eventually wife Jane Hirst Kershaw. This family ended up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was from Ohio, he from England (as far as I can figure out). It doesn't appear they had children themselves...if they did, I can't understand why they wouldn't have kept these great letters! Let me know if someone has a family connection. | The Riders |
SWANIGAN MALOY Posted 8/29/99 |
I have some beautiful portraits of Susan Brown Swanigan (or
spelling variation) from Michigan. She was born in 1885 maybe the
Gaol City area to William Brown ( a French Canadian) and Susan
Maloy (an Irish lass). Her children were named Gladys/Marion and
Therese or Peanut. Must prove relationship and pay postage. My grandfather, Mark Michael Brown, was Susan's brother. |

Jaskulke
Posted 3/27/01 |
I have many pictures that were left to the family after my Grandfather William James McCarthy Sr. died in 1948. They are pictures of Lucille Jaskulke and her four children (three girls and a boy)taken in Detroit. Lucille had died in 1944, I think. I would love to get these pictures back to her family | Julie |
