New pump for the artesian well arrived and will be a better ornament on the Public Square than the old windmill was.

Sons of Temperance lodge started here.

D- Rev. Benjamin Sabin, member of the Michigan Conference, but superanuated and living in Homer since 1854, died at his res. in great peace, Feb. 17th inst. He was born 1790,

converted in 1807 and began to exhort & preach in 1809. He joined the New England conference in 1810. He was greatly blessed in his ministry in the promotion of revivals. He has

gone to his reward to meet many gone before him who had been saved through his instrumentality.

D- Mrs. Henry Palmer of Clarendon, died very suddenly at her res. in the above place the fore part of last week. We understand she went to bed feeling as well as usual, but was taken sick and died before any help could be rendered. She leaves a husband and several small children to mourn her loss.

Geo. E Davis exchanged his fine res. on corner Webster & Everett for a farm 4 miles S of village, owned by John Morrison.

D- Albert Avery- one of early settlers of Bellevue, Eaton Co., died Thurs. He was father of AF & Edward Avery, of Battle Creek.

M- at res. of bride's father, March 7 by Prof. JS Copp, BC Crandall of Pleasant, Ind., & Miss Anna E Hopkins of Clarendon.

D- Dr George Barnum, formerly a res. and practitioner of this place, died at his home in Junius, NY on Sunday last. Owing to sickness, the doctor left this place upwards of one year

ago, in hopes that a change would benefit his health. He leaves a brother and many friends here to mourn his loss.

There is a great demand for houses to rent here this spring, in fact it is almost impossible to find one vacant, and at least 25 new ones should be erected to supply those in want the coming season.

AT Brooks exchanged his house & lot on Fulton, at south end of Sophia with Truman Powers, for 25 acres of land 1/2 mile S of corporation.

M- Notice from Deane Shedd stating that item last week was a sad mistake, marriage report not true.

WL Winslow sold his hardware stock to BF Goodrich of Corunna, who has removed same from the corner store in Lyon's block, into Robert's building, where he intends to keep a complete line of goods.

D- at res. of his father in Eckford, April 11, Hugh Humphrey, aged 39 yrs.

D- April 8, at res. of Josiah Slater, 2 miles S of this village, Huntington Janes, whose age was about 65 yrs.

John Adams has a new building on Hillsdale St, S of Public Square, which is to be used for a meat market.

M- at Richardson House, April 11, by TS Dorsey, Esq., Martin L Blashfield of Clarendon & Harriet J Scott, Tekonsha.

Tide of emigration here seems to be toward N Sophia Street of late.

D- Wm. Barney, locomotive engineer on MCRR, died of typhoid pneumonia at his res. in Marshall, the 14th.

Litchfield bank has collapsed.

S Cook is adding to his house at the W end of Main St.

Harvey Potter bought lot on Hamilton St., opposite Union School and will build a dwelling house there.

M- April 21 at ME parsonage by Rev. A Hunsberger, Almon J Shepard to Martha G Perry, both of Clarendon.

Probably the largest letter ever delivered at post office here was received from Geo. J French, postage was 18 cents. It started on its way in Dec. 1871 and was a half sheet of notepaper. Since then it was received and sent in alphabetical order by 33 people, each adding a half sheet.

It is the class letter of Michigan Univ. (U of M) in 1870. The class numbered 76, and at present rate, it will take 3 years more for the letter to reach the last man of the class.

D- Mr Clevemyer - age about 70, found dead in bed at res. of Foster Burch, in Butler, Saturday.

D- one of our old and esteemed citizens, John McKay died very suddenly April 30 of heart disease, at his res. 2 1/2 miles NW of this village. During the afternoon he had visited this

place on business and had just returned home with a load of oats, and having taken his team from the wagon, he stepped into the barn and fell senseless to the floor. His son Eddie, hearing him fall, ran to his assistance, at the same time calling for help. Mrs. McKay came immediately, but nothing could be done to revive him. On Sunday funeral services were held at his home. His remains were taken to Marshall & placed beside those of his first wife. Member of the FreeWill Baptist Church on the plains since converting in 1864. He leaves wife & 2 children.

M- by Rev. A Hunsberger, at res. of Geo. McCartney, in Homer, Stephen J Thorn & Regena Bates(?), both of Homer.

D- at res. of her father, John Snider, in village, May 17, Hattie L., wife of Charles D Burt, age 21y, 6m, 1d.

D- Hon. Daniel Dunakin died May 16 at his res. in Eckford of heart disease, age 66 yrs. His sickness was short, his death sudden & unexpected. He was in town the day before his

death. This takes away another of the pioneers of Eckford who has long been a prominent & influential, and to some extent, a public man. He settled in Eckford on the farm where he

resided at the time of his death, in 1835, emigrating from Monroe Co., NY. He had accumulated a handsome property and sustained an unsullied reputation for honesty, uprightness and integrity. He has occupied various positions of public trust, representing this district in the State Legislature in the Session of 1855. At the time of his death he was a director of the National Bank at Albion and a trustee of Hillsdale College, which positions he had held for several years. Large circle of friends. Member Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral at his res. in Eckford on Tuesday was widely attended.

D- May 21 in Clarendon, Mr. _____ Houston, age about 60.

D- Mrs. Hattie L., wife of Charles D Burt, and oldest dau. Of John Snider, of this village, She had, as a young wife, just moved into a pleasant home, where, with noble aspirations, she anticipated a bright future. Her prospects were soon clouded by the same insidious disease, consumption, that had called her mother to an early grave.

D- Alex Arthur - Suddenly after only a few days illness-Alexander Arthur died in the 51st yr. of his age. He was a prominent businessman, the longest in business of any in town

and a member and officer in Presby. Ch. He was born London, England Aug. 1824. At only a year or two old, his father, Peter Arthur, a Scotchman by birth, came to NY City, then

Albany, then E Troy, where Alexander's young mother died. Then father & son came to Canandaigna, then to Jackson Co., MI, residing with a half brother of Alexander's, John A

Bacon, who still lives in Jackson. A half sister, Mrs. Jayne, of Benton, NY also survives. He came toHomer in winter or early spring of 1843 and was a shoemaker. In Oct. 1868 he married Miss Nettie L. Gatchell, who with 1 dau. age 1 1/2 yrs and 2 sons by 1st wife survive.

D- Mrs. McLeod- lived 2 miles S of Ceresco, in a fatal buggy accident in Marshall last Saturday.

D- SC Walker, who lately returned from California in feeble condition, died at brother's res., Mr. Lewis, in Eckford, yesterday.

D- Family of Frank Thompson of Litchfield, from poison toad stools. He died yesterday, his wife the night before & one of his little children is not expected to live.

D- telegraph informs us Henry Pratt, of Pratt & Davis, died yesterday at San Jose, Calif., where he went in search of health last July.

Article on Caroline Westcott, past literary editress of the Times, is engaged now in real estate and loan agent business. She is the dau. of JN Westcott of Homer.

RR excursion to Lansing. Litchfield & Homer filled 8 coaches for a picnic & a day of sightseeing.

Dr Collins went after the remains of H Pratt, who died in California last week.

Peter Cook, of Detroit, brother of late Hon. Henry Cook of Eckford, and wife, to whom he was married over 60 years ago, are visiting relatives here. He is the guest of JH Cook of

this village. He expects to meet his son John of St Paul, Minn. here.

M- Will T Drake, formerly in drug trade here, now with AD Schuyler of Marshall, was married there Wed. last week to Miss Belle Warren.

Remains of Henry Pratt arrived here last Sat., then on to Chelsea- cemetery at Sylviad Center.

D- at Homer Sept. 17, after a long illness, Mrs Maria Hopkins, age 66y. Funeral Presby. Ch Sept 19. She was born at Rome, NY in 1809 and married Willet Hopkins in 1828. She survived him by 10 yrs. They lived several years in NY State but at an early day came to Cook's Prairie, where they res. until they moved to Homer. She was mother of 5 sons, 2 daus. Youngest dau. died in early life. In 1866, youngest son died in his early manhood. In 1872, her other dau., Mrs AC Sabin, died.

$3,210 paid to teachers of schools in this township for year ending Sept. 6.

M- by Rev. Hunsberger, Sept. 29, at bride's mother's res. in Tekonsha, Alfred F Swift, Esq. & Hannah E Batt, all of Tekonsha.

D- Josiah Willard Westcott, in former years a res. of Homer, died at res. of his father, JN Westcott, on the 30th ult., after a protracted illness, aged 41 years. Again we see proven how well death loves a shining mark. He was a man of rare ability, of great scholarly attainments, of a nature singularly lovable, of a temper always seeking the sunshine and finding the best in everything. He was born in NY, obtained his collegiate education at Geneva, now Hobart,

College, carrying off the honors of the class. He entered the study of law first in Ohio, whither at about the time of his graduation, his parents had removed. His legal studies were perfected in Chicago, where he settled in practice, soon building up a lucrative & extensive business.

After 7 years noble work in the Garden city, he ws compelled by bronchial difficulties to seek a more congenial climate and he moved to Memphis, Tenn. After 10 years successful practice of law in Memphis, he was again compelled by ill health to seek a more favorable climate. He chose St Louis and went there last Nov. Health again failed, he came North. He left a wife and 4 little children, one, a son, born only a few days before his death, he never saw.

D- Lodge Notice - Chas. Doolittle, died Oct. 8, age 57. He came to Mich with parents in 1832 and was an early Calhoun County settler. Member Masonic, a kind husband & father.
