A to B----
I have been working for sometime now to find information on my 3x grt grandfather Edward L. Beach who resided in La Grange twp, Cass County Michigan from 1840 to 1864.  Edward Beach was born in New York, specific location unknown.  I can find records of his marriage to
Mary A. Carney (Polly) in 1843.  The had a son, Myron W. Beach born 27 August 1844 in Michigan.  In the 1850 Federal Census both Myron and Edward are listed, but not in the same household.  There is no listing for Mary A. (Carney) Beach.  In May 1851 Edward married Mary Ann Mason and they had three children.  It is believed in or about 1864 the family relocated to Iowa.
I have many question regarding Edward's time in Michigan - contact Sandy at sas3619@yahoo.com

C to D----

Collins and Caldwell: I have reached a brick wall as to the parents of Michael I. Collins and his wife Lina/Lenna Caldwell.  Michael and Lina married 22 Jun 1829 in Giles County, Virginia.  Their parents are not named in the marriage record.  Michael and Lina are my 4th great grandparents.

Throughout his life Michael reported his birth year as 1806 and place of birth as Virginia.  Throughout her life Lina reported her birth year as 1808 and place of birth as Virginia.

By 1834 they are in Cass County, Michigan when Michael purchased 42 acres.  I don’t have a copy of the deed. Michael obtained more Cass County property in 1836 and 1839.  I don’t have a copy of the deeds.

Allegedly, "The History of Cass County, Michigan" reports Michael Collins as one of the original Cass County land owners in December 1835.  I have not found this book.

Michael and Lina and their children are enumerated in Penn Township in the US Censuses of 1840 and 1850.  Their children were all born in Cass County, Michigan; Harvey d. 1834, Rosetta b. 1846 and Frances Marion b. 1849.

In March 1851 there is allegedly a deed wherein Michael sells land to Benjamin Underwood.  I don’t have a copy of the deed.

In April 1851 the family moves to Illinois.  If you have information on these families, please contact James Fosdyck at

Cramer family -
Maiden name is Mary Ann Wise.  She married Daniel Krammer/Cramer 27 Oct 1846 in Cass Co. MI (online Dibean Michigan Marriage Index, KRAMMER,DANIEL -KRAMMER,WISE,MAY ANN WISE,CASS,,27 OCT 1846,---,---,---,).

In the 1850 (July 30) census for Porter township, Cass County, Michigan, Mary seems to be listed twice and her age is uncertain, neither instance reconciling to her marriage (George Arnold) record or the 1860 census:
a.  family 419, living with the Jonathon Thelheimer family:  Daniel Cramer, 24, PA, cooper, and Mary Cramer, 20, OH.
b.  family 469, living with Daniel Ebee & family:  Daniel Cramer, 27, PA, cooper, and Mary Cramer, 24, PA.

On Oct 2, 1853 in Porter, Cass, MI, she married my g-g-g-grandfather; he died in 1867 and Mary Ann seems to have "disappeared".  I would like to find the identity of her parents and where she went after 1867.  -- Contact Jean Steele - Jean Steele  -  jeanalgy@gmail.com

Rice - Absolam Rice (1825 or 1827-1865) was in Cass County Michigan in 1840.  Prior to this, he was in Ohio, and the census records show that his parents may have been born in New York.  My mother and I have searched for any records associated with his parents for years with no success.  We think his father might also be named Absolam Rice.
Possible brothers of 15 year-old Absolam are:  Roderick Rice (1809), Silas Hiram Rice (1810), William Waldron Rice (1817-1868) Thomas J Rice (1838).
