Alonzo Brown

Alonzo Brown was born 2-28-1855 in Cohocton, Steuben Co, NY. When he was four, his parents moved to Cass county and settled in Volinia. In 1872, when Alonzo was only 17, his father died. The following year, on 7-3-1875 , Alonzo married Martha Anna Goff (born 4-1-1854 in Wakelee to Frederick Goff Jr. and Mary Bridge ). Together, they had 6 children: Clark William ( 4-7-1876 ), Anna O. (born and died in 1880), Bertrum F. (Oct. 1881), Myrtle M. (Mar. 1887), Elgie Everet ( 11-2-1892 ) and Claude Philo ( 10-16-1894 ). In 1880, the family lived in Volinia, where Alonzo was a farmer. By 1900, they were living in Penn twp where they lived in a home on which they paid a mortgage. Alonzo worked as a farm laborer. In 1910, they were again living in Volinia in a house with a mortgage. In 1920, they had just moved in with their oldest son, Clark at 309 Constantine St. in Three Rivers. Two weeks later, on 8-16-1920 , Alonzo died of heart trouble at the age of 75. He was buried in Little Fish Lake cemetery in Wakelee. Martha survived another 20 years, dying 1-13-1940 . According to my grandmother she was an extremely hard worker and enjoyed canning, cooking and sewing.
