Boyne Citizen - April 16, 1920

Obituary

Marcus S Miles was born in Fitchville, Ohio, Dec 2, 1842. He was the youngest son of a family of six children. He soon moved with his father to Hartland, O, where he grew to manhood. Here he entered the sawmill and lumber business which he has been engaged in ever since. In 1865 he entered the service of his country in the war of the rebellion, serving in the 165th O infantry. After the war he returned to his home and on Nov 12, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Artie Bartholomew.
About 1885 he moved with his family to Michigan. For 14 years they resided at Elmira and for the past 19 years have lived in Boyne City. While in Boyne City he has been engaged in the lumber business.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter Mrs. John Mooney. Mr Miles was a member of the Odd Fellows, The Maccabees and the G A R and in the earlier years of his life was active in these fraternal orders. While a young man he joined the United Brethren Church, and later the Congregational Church. In 1915 he became a member of the Presbyterian church of this city.
Mr Miles was a good citizen, an honorable business man, and a kind and thoughtful husband and father and gave evidence of being a genuine Christian man. For many years he has been connected with the men's class of this church. It has been his increasing delight to teach in his matchless way the members of that class.
In his passing from us the community has lost a good citizen, the home a loving father and husband, the church a faithful member and a good man has gone to his eternal reward. Of him may we not in our Christian faith say, "He is not dead but sleepeth" and look forward to the morn of awakening to a richer and fuller life.
