Boyne Citizen - August 23, 1945

Services For Mrs Marquardt

Funeral services were held at the Walker Funeral Home Monday August 13 at 2:00 o'clock for Mrs Otto Marquard who died at Mercy Hospital in Grayling.
Mrs Marqauardt suffered third degree burns when their farm home burned to the ground Saturday morning, August 4, following an explosion of a pressure tank on a gas stove. Her eight months old daughter, Violet died last Saturday from burns and was buried in Fairview cemetery on August 8.
Luella Huff was born in Boyne Falls on August 15, 1910 and had she lived till Wednesday of this week would have been 35 years old. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Huff, and spent her early girlhood in Boyne Falls where she graduated from the local High School.
On March 5, 1930 she was united in marriage to Otto Marquardt of Otsego County and to this union were born two daughters, Kathleen 5 years old and the baby daughter Violet, who preceded her in death just a week. She had spent her entire married life on the farm in Dover Township where she was a tireless worker and a devoted wife and mother. Everything was done to ease the pain during her last days, her husband spending every possible moment at the hospital with her.
Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by her parents, Mr and Mrs Lewis Huff of Boyne City, three sisters, Mrs Dorothy Carson of Boyne Falls, Mrs Agnes Roberts of East Lansing, Ellen at home and two brothers, Gordon of Gaylord and Edward of Detroit.
The funeral, one of the largest in a long time, was conducted by Elder Allen Schreur with burial in Fairview cemetery beside her baby daughter.
