JOSEPH R. GUILD, 84
RETIRED DAIRYMAN
PASSES AWAY TUESDAY

JOSEPH R. GUILD, 84 , retired Eveline township dairyman ,died Early Tuesday morning at the Charlevoix hospital where he had been admitted a week ago after suffering a stroke . He had been in failing health for some time.

Mr. Guild was born in Ontario , Can ., on May 27, 1860. In 1880 he married Elizabeth Purvis and about a year later they came to Michigan and settled in Eveline township. He worked in lumber camps and farmed until going into the dairy business in 1910. He retired from business about 10 years ago. Mrs. Guild preceded him in death in 1928.

He was a member of the Church of God.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Jack Runyon of Flint, Mrs. Della Botkin of Mt Morris, Mrs. Roy Flood of Chicago, Mrs Lawrence Isman of Bellaire, Mrs. C. Hartman, of Buffalo, N. Y., Mrs. Jule Guild, of Charlevoix, two brothers, fourteen grandchildren and several great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the See Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, wiyh the Rev. W.D. Wood officiating. Interment will be at the Brookside cemetery


MRS. JOSEPH R. GUILD PASSES
EARLY RESIDENT OR REGION
DIED LAST FRIDAY
1863 - 1928

Mrs. Joseph R. Guild passed away at the family farm residence last Friday evening about seven o'clock, her death following an illness that continued over a period of about two years, her death being hastened by a severe stroke of paralysis by which she was stricken on Thursday, November 1 from which she failed to rally and remained in an unconscious or in a state of semi-consciousness from the time of her last affliction until her death.

Her maiden name was Phoebe Elizabeth Purvis, place of birth Kent county, Ontario and the date September 22, 1863, therefore at the time of her death in her sixty-sixth year.

When eighteen years of age she was united in marriage to Joseph R. Guild, also of Kent county ,at the place of her birth and with Mr. Guild at once came to Charlevoix county to make their permanent home, locating in Eveline township, where have continued for the following sixteen years after which they moved to the farm in Marion township, about four miles southeast of this city, where they have continuously resided during the intervening twenty-one years.

Mrs. Guild was a typical home women and it was at her home where she could usually be found, attending to her household affairs and where her friends usually met her when she was entertained and where she in turn entertained. She was wholly in love with home life, contented with surroundings and happy with her family and associates, all of whom speak of her as a devoted wife, mother and friend in terms of highest praise, and sincerely mourn the loss of an excellent neighbor and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Guild, six daughters, Mrs. F. S. Hernley, Mrs. H. D. Botkin and Mrs. R. E. McConnell of Flint; Mrs. L. A. Isaman of Ellsworth; Mrs. Charles Hartman of Detroit; and Mrs. Jule Guild of Charlevoix, and one son, Arthur L. Guild, also of Charlevoix. Other survivors are two sisters and a brother living in New Jersey, one brother in Iowa and another residing in Indiana and ten grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at the Stone Chapel Sunday afternoon with the pastor Rev. G. H. Pye officiating, assisted by the Rev. LeRoy Sheldon, a family friend of long standing, of Boyne City, at which the bereaved husband and the daughters and son were present. The interment immediately following at Brookside cemetery.


ARTHUR LORN GUILD A VICTIM OF A HEART ATTACK
Prominent Marion Twp. Man Taken by Death Last Week
(March 18, 1936)

Marion township lost a respected citizen Wednesday night in the death of Arthur Lorn Guild, who succumbed to a heart attack.

Mr. Guild was born near East Jordan on July 20 1885. He had spent the greater portion of his life in the vicinity of Charlevoix, living for the past 18 years at the present family home.

He was married to Olive Margaret Rice, of Portland, Mich., July 27, 1917. To this Union five children were born one dying in infancy .

Surviving are the father,Joseph Guild; the widow; four children; Katherine Elizabeth, Gertrude Lorine, Roswell Timothy, Clifton Arthur; an uncle,William Guild, all living in Charlevoix; six sisters; Mre Ervan Hernley, of Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Lawrence Isaman, of Ellsworth, Mich,; Mrs. Dan Botkin and Miss Nellie Guild, both of Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Charles Hartman, of Detroit, and Jule Guild, of Charlevoix.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Church of God, of which Mr. Guild was a long-time member, Rev. W. A. Stewart officiating.


FOUND LYING DEAD ACROSS THE THRESHOLD
Death Takes Mrs. Joseph Seymour While Doing Morning Work
(June 1916)

Mrs. Joseph Seymour died very suddenly Sunday, June 4, 1916, from heart trouble while engaged in her household duties. She had been under the physician's care for some time before her death, but it was not thought the end would come in the manner that it did. She was alone in the house preparing breakfast, while her husband was at the barn doing the chores. When he returned to the house he found her laying across the threshold dead.

Angeline Supernaw Seymour was born at Ellenberg, N.Y., in 1855. In 1870 she was married to Joseph Seymour. To this union seven children were born, three boys and four girls, William, Elmer, Raymond, Mrs. Emma Hebert, Mrs. Minnie Waffle, Mrs. Inez Becket and Mrs. Lillie Yetaw.

She was a resident of Atwood for 37 years, where she made many friends. About four years ago they moved to Charlevoix, also making many friends here.

She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and was thought much of by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband and seven grief stricken children, one sister and four brothers, also a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, June 6, at 9 a. m., from Catholic church, of which se has been a devoted member all of her life. Interment in Charlevoix cemetery.


JOSEPH SEYMOUR, PIONEER RESIDENT, DEAD
Funeral Services Conducted Monday From St. Mary's Church

Fr. Neubecker conducted funeral services at 9 o'clock Monday morning from St. Mary's church for Joseph Seymour, pioneer resident of this district, who died Tuesday evening, March 23, at the home of his son Raymond.

Mr. Seymour was born in Canada in 1851 and was 86 years of age at his death. He went to Ellenburgh, N.Y., with his parents at the age of 11 years, and at the age of 18 was married to Angeline Supernaw, whose death occurred in 1916.

After their marriage, the couple moved onto a farm near Atwood and resided there until 24 years ago, then moving to this city.

Surviving are six children; Mrs. Emma Hebert Mrs. Winnie Waffle, William and Raymond of Charlevoix; Mrs. Inez Bacot and Mrs. Lillian Lawrence of Flint; tow sisters, Linda Seymour and Delia Seymour of Ellenburg, N.Y.; three brothers, Adolphus and John, of Flint; and Fred, of Plattsburg, N.Y.; also 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grand-child. A son, Elmer, died in 1923, and a brother, Medrick, in 1933.
