My father, Ken (Abbe) Brown's father, Mike Abbe was married, lived and died in Cheboygan County. While looking for him, I ran across a reference to an Addie Adams having married a George Robinson in Cheboygan County in 1872. My husband's great grandfather's first wife's name was Addie. Her tombstone, in Bay City, says her maiden name was Malone, but this would be the right time period. I haven't been able to find him on the 1870 census for sure. I have a mysterious Guy Robinson who inherited property from George Robinson. I see there is a Guy Robinson listed on the site as well. I am trying to find out if Addie Malone and Addie Adams are the same woman. She was born around 1852. George was born around 1843 in either NY or Canada. his parents were Nelson and Jane Archer Robinson. I would also like to find out if Guy was their son. Cynthia Brown, tradergrizz@lycos.com

I am hoping to find out if anyone might have the World War 1 Cheboygan County Soldiers list. I am trying to find out if my greatgrandfather Benjamin Frankling Rhodes (also known as Frank) enlisted in Cheboygan County to serve in World War I. I am trying to find out if he died in the war. He and his family lived in Cheboygan County during 1914 -1916. The state of Michigan has no record of his death and I came to Cheboygan to look in the death records and didn't find his name. I can only think now that may be he was in the war and was killed. Karen K. Massey MASSEY@GTLAKES.COM

Patricia Bell Ellis JUNE 2001
My great grandfather FRANK BELL was the brother of GEORGE BELL who married LYDIA GLIDDEN. Among their children was a daughter named ANNIE who married BRAYTON SALTONSTALL. I am seeking distant cousins who may still live in Cheboygan and who might have traced the family farther back than I have. I can go into Nova Scotia but I can't find the town and I don't know whether they went from here to Canada or started out in N.S and then came here. I have seen my family listed on some Cheboygan lists but except for Joel P. Bell I can't find their burial sites. I think George Bell's family also had an Amy Bell and a Blaine. I read in some old letters a reference to someone's having had a pharmacy. Patricia Bell Ellis, pbellellis@aol.com

Does anyone have any information on the parents of Edward DONER who married Libbie ST. ANTOINE? I have an Antoine Edward DONER, born May 03, 1858, Mackinac Island, Mackinac Co., to Antoine DONER/Mary LESSIEUR. He is shown in the 1860 and 1870 censuses with his father. I don't have a record of him in the 1880. Then in the 1900 census, an Edward DONER age 38, is shown in Cheboygan County; Pelmyra Street; 5th Ward; with wife, Elizabeth (Libby?) and children. In the 1910, the same family is shown. I would like to believe these two Edward's are one and the same, and that he is the son of my Antoine, but there are a couple of things that bother me. First the age discrepancy: while not great, it's enough to question. Second, the names of Edward and Libbie's children, as shown on the censuses, Wilford, Lewis, Eddie, Willie, Oscar, Kathrine, Vivian, Carron, & Leona, don't seem to match any of the ancestry of my Antoine. What I need is some PROOF of Edward's parents...like maybe a death certificate? Can someone help me out on this? Thanks so much! Judy King, heyjud@greatlakes.net

Jim Hampton MAY 2001

Looking information on my Carpentier side. My grandparents were Francis Nelson Carpentier and Celina Catherine Leask. They were living in Cheboygan in the 1930's and may have been living there earlier then that. They had the following children: Alice Joyce, Paul, William, Betty, Celina, Leo, Thomas, Teresa, Julia, Charles and Bernard (died very young). I know my Grandmother Celina Catherine and Great Grandfather Wilfred Carpentier are buried some place in Cheboygan. Wilfred Carpentier married Julia Brassard on September 13, 1897 at the Sacred Heart Church in Sault Ste Marie, Ont. Their children were Francis Nelson, Joseph, Louis, Caroline Mary, Zoe, Rosanne, and Marie. I believe their son Joseph Carpentier married Edna DeLisle in 1925 in Cheboyan, but I may have the wrong Joseph Carpentier. That is all I have on the Carpentier side. I know a lot about the Leask side. I know a lot of people have spelt the Carpentier name as Carpenter. I know there are relatives still in the Cheboygan area, so I am hoping someone can give me more information on the Carpentier side. Rhonda Ross, rossrl1@home.com
