General(1,2): Page 539 of "150 Years in the Hills and Dales, a Bicentennial of Hillsdale County" 1776-1976 states that Abram and Maria Barney Stafford came to Hillsdale County and purchased the W 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 27, Wheatland Township from John Sustin and wife on 6 May 1839. (As Maria would have been 12 years old at this time, this date is questionable or perhaps his father Gadius purchased the property.)  The first home was a log house on the west side of the spring brook that runs through the farm and the barn was built on the east side.  In the late 1850's, the present house was built on the east side of the spring brook near the barn.  Susan was born in the log house and Clara was born in the present house.  On 12 Aug 1859, Abram and Maria Stafford bought the NE 1/4 of Section 27 containing 40 acres from John Halleck.  When Abram died, Susan was paid off out of the estate and Sadie received the NE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 27 containing 40 acres.  Fourteen years later she sold it to Homer Tingley.  Clara recieved the original 80 acres.
