Documentation: Sources: Launton parish register; British civil registration (Richard & Jemima's marriage); Michigan death certificates (Richard, daughter Jemima); Michigan marriage records (FamilySearch Pilot); 1851 London census; 1860-70-80-1900-10-20-30 US censuses. Other information: Richard and his family came to Michigan in 1857. In the 1860s he bought a farm in Wheatland Twp, and it became the destination for the families of his sisters Sarah Ambrose, Alice Godfrey, and Hannah Hawkins when they came to the US in the early 1870s. Richard's daughter Lydia Clarke lived on a nearby farm and inherited his farm after he died. His youngest daughter, Mary Childs, went with her husband to South Dakota shortly after her marriage, and then about 1908 to Klickitat County, WA. |
