Documentation:  1866 Diary of Ann Melvina BOSTWICK POWLISON gives her birthdate, and Gilbert's parentage. Marriage Records of Calhoun County for marriage date and place; POWLISON Round Robin book for full name of Ann Melvina POWLISON; 1850 census and 1860 census for living place and Betsey BOSTWICK'S age. Letter from attorney to Grace BERG gives death date of Gilbert POWLISON; 1870 census for Grace BERG'S age - also Ionia County births site and personal family knowledge for birth date. Oakhill Cemetery listing shows both Betsey BOSTWICK and Melvina POWLISON buried there. Powlison Bible lists Grace A. POWLISON, born Ionia and gives date.; Oregon death certificate for Grace BERG; Powlison Bible shows marriage date for George BERG and Grace POWLISON - also listed in Michigan Marriage, plus I have their marriage certificate. According to "History of Kalamazoo County", Gilbert was a township clerk for Comstock in 1850. In 1866, when Melvina wrote her diary, they were farming in or near Ionia. Melvina was ill a lot, and by 1869, when Grace Amanda POWLISON was born, they were living in Ionia. In 1870, Gilbert POWLISON was a clerk in Ionia, and by 1873, he was a partner in a general store at Main near Third in Ionia, named Harter and Powlison. Melvina died in 1873, and in 1874, Gilbert married Amanada Lavery, a young woman who had been a caregiver and housekeeper for Melvina and Gilbert. By 1880, Gilbert lists his occupation as carpenter.
