This hasn't been verified in any other record as of August 2003. William served in the Civil War in Co. E, 14th Regiment of Michigan. He enlisted 22SEP1864 & was discharged 18JUL1865 at Louisville, KY. His dicharge papers say: "Said William Cowden was born in the State of Ohio, is 30 years of age. Five feet seven inches high, sandy complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a farmer." Isabella Co.
