Daniel D. Payne, son of Nathaniel Payne, was born in Livingston County,New York State. He married Mary Ann McGinnis whose parents were Irish. 
They had 7 children: Sarah, Charles, Elam, Jane, Mary Ann (Betsy),Daniel D., Jr., and George (John).
Daniel D. and Mary Ann purchased a farm west of Kalamazoo in OshtemoTownship, Kalamazoo County, where they lived for many years.
After Mary Ann's death, Daniel married Zilla Baker, sister to hisdaughter Betsy's husband. 
They had one child, Carrie Belle Stevens.
Daniel D. and Mary Ann are buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Kalamazoo,Michigan.
