Husband's General Notes

Angus James McAfee Born: 5 Dec 1818 Hamilton, Wentworth, Canada Died: 21 Oct 1890 Manistique Michigan

Note: This is the OLDEST proven individual in our McAfee Line, all predecessors are tentative.

Immigration: Apparently came to US between births of Thomas and Tamar J. Tamar said she was born in US and 1870 Census says in Canada. Newspaper records indicate that AJ was in US in December 1854. The 1860 Census indicates that Tamar was born in Michigan and was 4 years old, so the latest that he could have immigrated was 1856

Living Notes

1 Angus McAfee received letters at the St Clair County Post Office during the months of December 1854 and March 1855. This was published in the Port Huron Commercial, a weekly newspaper. This was published because stamps were not required and the recipients had to pay for the postage. Source: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Death Info

Obituary Mastique local paper, hand dated 1, 1915
Aged Lady Passes Away.
------------
Mrs. Ann McAfee, one of City's Pioneers Died Last Saturday.
-----------
Mrs. Anna McAfee died at her home on Manistique Avenue Saturday after noon of last week after a protracted illness with the ailments incident to old age.
The deceased was born of Quaker parentage at Norwich, Conn in 1830.
She was married in 1849 to Mr. Angus James McAfee, who preceded her to the spirit land twenty-four years ago. She was the mother of nine children, four of which are living at present, viz: Thomas and John McAffee of Alger county, Mrs John McGregor of Plummer, Ont. and Mrs. John Mutart of this city. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
The deceased came to Manistique on Sept 8, 1870, and has resided here continuously. During the winter of that year there were only nine families residing in the city, and with the exception of James Norton's family she was the only one of left of that number. She recounted much interesting data concerning Manistique's early history. Her faculties were very well preserved considering her age of eighty-five years.
During her last illness she had the constant and faithful attendance of her daughter, Mrs. Mutart.
The funeral services were held from the home Thursday afternoon, Rev F. R. Leach of the First Baptist church officiating. The services were largely attended by friends and neighbors.
Among those present from a distance, were sons Thomas and John McAffee, the latter being accompanied by his wife; Mrs Howard Fox of Shingleton, and Mrs. Geo. Lossage of vanMere, grand daughters, were also in attendance.
