the back of picture postcard of what may be the ship, it reads:

"Dampfer Lasconia der Hamburg-Amerika Lines"
Johann Heinrich Leverenz (geboren am 19 Mars 1836) am 15 September 1866 mit Frau
und
2 kleinen kindern von Hamburg nach Amerika......."

According to Romelda (Leverenz) Blum, they came over with just the clothes on
their back, no records or pictures. They were on the ship 13 days!

Census records.
In a conversation with Romelda Leverenz Blum in January 1999, she said that her
grandfather John favored her. He told her that she looked a lot like Sophie.

According to Romelda (Leverenz) Blum, Sophia died in Detroit at her daughter
Minnie's home.
General: Previously the name "Sophie" was all the information that I had. Since then,
through the internet, Patrick Blohm of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan provided me
with her formal name. This has not been validated as January 17, 2000.

Romelda (Leverenz) Blum provided me some information in a letter dated February
14, 2000 about Sophia's maiden name on Christian's death certificate.
Previously it was thought that Sophia's maiden name was Palms but the death
certificate says Peeper.

The Certificate of Death states the cause of death was arteriosclerotic heart
disease and arthritis.

Township with 6 of their children. He was a farmer, owned his

The Certificate Death states that he was a Section hand for the railroad, no
dates available though.
In a telephone conversation with Romelda Leverenz Blum on January 30, 1999, she
said that he bought the farm from his dad and all of the children grew up there.

RICHMOND--Christian Leverenz, 82, died Monday in Mt. Clemens after a short
illness. Mr. Leverenz was born Oct. 4, 1862 in Germany, the son of the late
John and Sophia Leverenz, and came to this country with his parents at the age
of three and has lived in and around this community since that time. Mrs.
Leverenz died 23 years ago.
Burial took place in the Richmond Cemetery on July 4, 1945.
Mr. Leverenz is survived by three brothers, Henry Leverenz of Casco Township,
and John Leverenz and Herman Leverenz of Richmond; one sister Mrs. Minnie
Kuecken of Detroit.

RICHMOND-- Funeral services for Henry Leverenz, 86, who died Wednesday at his
home 67556 S. Main Street, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Hensch
Funeral Home, Richmond.
The Rev. Albert Knoll, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church will officiate with
burial in Richmond Cemetery.
A retired farmer, Mr. Leverenz was born May 16, 1868 in Casco township, St.
Clair county, a son of the late John and Sophia Leverenz. He had resided in
Richmond for seven years, moving from his farm in Casco Township.
He is survived by two brothers, John and Herman, both of Richmond; and one
sister Mrs. Minnie Kuecken of Detroit. His wife, Anna, died in 1950.

Cause of death was arterio schlerotic - heart disease.

No autopsy was performed. He was buried April 30, 1955 in Richmond Cemetery.

Clerk of the Court on June 28, 1999.
John Carl Ludwig Leverenz, born March 30, 1870, in St. Clair County, Casco
Township, Lenox, Michigan. Parents: Father is John Leverenz, age 40, born in
Germany; Mother is Sophia Pfeiffer, age 36, born in Germany. This birth
certificate was never issued until May 4, 1945. Documentary evidence was a
census record and one older brother. John Carl was the 4th child of his mother
with all of them living at the time of his birth.

Howard Street who died Sunday in Martha T. Berry hospital.

Born in Casco township, March 30, 1870, Mr. Leverenz was a retired farmer. His

Surviving are a son, Harry of Richmond; step-son Elmer Buelow of Richmond; four
gr. ch.; seven gr gr grch; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Kuecken of Detroit.
