Tanner, Peggy J. Jacobs

SALOME, Ariz. — Peggy J. Jacobs Tanner, age 66, of Arizona, passed away on Dec. 15, 2012, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born June 22, 1946, in Traverse City. Peggy graduated from Traverse City High School in 1964. Peggy was also a longtime resident of Midland. She is survived by her husband, Bill Tanner, of Salome, Ariz.; her children, Matthew Miller (Barbara), of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Martha Tanner, of Arlington, Wash.; a sister, Deborah Jewell, of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Cynthia Jacobs. A memorial service is planned for a later date in Arizona. Cremation was entrusted to Abel Funeral Services of Phoenix, Ariz.

Victoria Lenecz Tifft
Died December 4, 1999
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Victoria Lenecz Tifft, 83, of Winston-Salem, was born into eternal life Saturday after a long illness. She was a former resident of Dearborn Heights, Mich. Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Carroll Tifft; two daughters, Julie Pais of Lexington, N.C., and Joyce Sheridan of Traverse City, Mich.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial Mass in celebration of her life was held in Clemmons. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Holy Family Catholic Church, PO Box 130, Clemmons, NC 27012. Cremations Services, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Tomlinson, James 'Larry'
EASTPORT — James "Larry" Tomlinson, 77, of Eastport, died Nov. 30, 2012, in Ann Arbor. He was born Sept. 12, 1935, the son of James E. and Ethel (Williams) Tomlinson. Larry grew up spending his summers and vacations on the beaches of northwest Torch Lake, property that has been in the family over 100 years. He played football at and was a graduate of Michigan Tech. He was instrumental in keeping the football program going at Michigan Tech and enjoyed watching many of their games. Larry was involved with Boy Scouts of America at the regional and national level. He dedicated many volunteer hours to scouting as a Scout Leader, Master and on different councils. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid hunter. Larry proudly served in the United States Air Force. Local politics were another passion of Larry's. He was the former mayor of Grand Blanc and a current Torch Lake Township Trustee. After his retirement as an accident reconstruction engineer with General Motors he started his own business, Eastport Engineering, continuing on with his reconstruction expertise. On Aug. 24, 1957, in Hancock, he married Marilyn Peterson, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jim Tomlinson, Mary Markham, Bob Tomlinson and Sue (Steve) Goslee; sister, Martha (Mike) McGuire; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bobby Markham; and son-in-law, Bob Markham. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with Pastors Gary Bekkering and Don Sinclair officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Twp. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., also at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America.

Tompkins, Ralph 'Deke'
Died December 21, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Ralph "Deke" Tompkins, 72, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 21. Deke had been a winter resident of Briny Breezes, Fla., for 12 years. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Marie; sons, David (Mitzi) of St. Joseph, Dean of Marquette, and Douglas (Patrice) of Traverse City; three brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren. Memorial services were held Thursday in Briny Breezes. Arrangements were by Babione-Stephenson Funeral Home of Lantana, Fla.
