Pleasant as the air of evening When it floats among the trees.
Peaceful be thy silent slumber, Peaceful in the grave so low;
Thou no more wilt join our number, Thou no more our songs shall know
Dearest sister, thou hast left us, Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But 'tis God that hath bereft us, He can all our sorrow heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee, When the day of life is shed,
Then in heav'n, with joy to greet thee, Where no farewell tear is shed."

A SAD WORLD
- The Racine Advertiser of the 8th, gives the particulars of a suicide in that city, on Thursday evening of last week. A young lady from Milwaukie, intellegent and of professing manners, as we learn, committed suicide at Congress Hall, by the use of poisons, from the effect of which she died on Saturday morning. To the physician who was called, she gave her name as Mary Jane Collins, and assigned as the cause of her act, the villainly of a young Man of Milwaukie, by whom she had been seduced under a promise of marriage, and then basely and wickedly abandoned to shame. To conceal her shame, and end her sorrows, she sought the refuge of the grave.

MARRIED
At Jonesville, on Wednesday, March 31st by Rev. Thomas I, Champion, Rev. Jomn [sic] C. Nobles, of Homer, to Miss Susan Ann Warren, only daughter of D.S. Warren Esqr., of Jonesville.

The evidence of their remembrance of the Printer, which accompanied the above, speaks well for the future bliss of the fair couple. May their days glide sweetly on, and health, happiness and an abundance of all the good things of life ever attend them.

DIED
At her fathers residence, in Tecumseh, on the 29th ult., after a short but painful illness, which she bore with the patience of a Christian, Nannie L., daughter of Charles Hewett, Esq., and wife of Richard Moore, of that place. Short of two years since the kind, amiable and accomplished Nannie was led a blooming bride to the altar, her goodness of heart has endeared her to a large circle of friends and acquaintances from whom she has been thus untimely and unexpectedly called away, death under any circumstances is appalling, but heartrending is the scene, to approach the cold and lifeless form of one whom we tenderly love, to take the last look amidst the fond recollections of the past, and to know we part to meet in this world no more forever. Peace to thy manes sweet Nannie, and may that peace that surpasseth all understanding abide with thy widowed husband, who's young heart o'er charged with grief, can only look for other prospects but in the strong faith of meeting thee in a brighter and a better world.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 7, 1849

DIED
In Springville, Lenawee County, on the 2d inst., Charles D. Toan, M.D., aged 43 years. The circumstances attending his death are extremely painful and melancholy to the feelings of his bereaved family, and a numerous circle of other relatives and friends. His death was in consequence of an injury received by being thrown from his Sulkey, he survived the accident only about three hours.

Dr. Toan as a Physician, was deservedly held in the highest estimation in the County and vicinity where he resided. In his death the Medical profession have to mourn the fall of a bright ----ment. He graduated in 1830 from the New York University with honor to himself and the institution. In his practice, (though naturally of a slender constitution) he manifested the greatest care and compassion for the unfortunate sufferers he was called to visit, possessing the most humane feelings, he as cheerfully visited the cottages of poverty, where there were his pro? of pecuniary compensation, as the splendid mansion of the wealthy, always willing to endure toil and fatigue for the good of others.

By his fellow citizens, he was universally esteemed as an independent, noble and upright man - conscientious in his principles ---ond and consistent in his philosophy, honest in his dealings, kind and inoffensive in his deportment. His benignity of feeling and cheerfulness, combined to make him beloved by all his relatives and friends.

But now, he has gone from amongst us - he has gone where sickness and death is not known - he has gone home to be with his God, to mingle with his friends who have departed before him. "Peace to his ashes."
