History Dating Back To Year 1507 Is Read and Proves Interesting To All Relatives Present At Meet
Elkton, Aug. 30 –
Fifty-one of the immediate relatives of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. McGillivray met for a
big family reunion on August 21st and according to reports everyone
had a most enjoyable time at the W.H. McGillivray home in Meade Township.
Dinner was served in the orchard ‘neath the shade of the old apple tree. After
dinner a program was carried out. Instrumental numbers were furnished by the
Misses Vera and Eva McGillivray and a male quartet consisting of Archie,
Charley, Russel and W.H. McGillivray amused those present with several songs.
P. McIntyre, of Detroit, rendered a very beautifully chosen solo and Mrs.
Thelma (Shuart) McIntyre of Detroit, read a history of the McGillivray clan
dating back to the year 1507, which was appreciated by the relatives. The
reunion proved such a success that it was voted on to make it an annual affair.
Mr. Wilson of Bad Axe was invited out and he took a number of pictures of the
crowd. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. P. McIntyre, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jones,
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Durkee, Mr. and Mrs.
R.J. McGillivray, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn McIntyre, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs.
C.E. McGillivray of Flint; Mr. and Mrs. P. Wengler [Wangler] of West Branch;
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Shuart of Elkton, Mr. and Mrs. A.A. McGillivray of Bad Axe
and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. McGillivray of Meade; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cline and daughter,
Bernice, of Bay City, visitors; 28 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr.
McGillivray celebrated his 70th birthday and acted as though he
might be the youngest man in the crowd. Mr. and Mrs. E.A. McGillivray are
pioneers of Huron County, having landed in Bad Axe 42 years ago on March 17 of
this year and they can relate about the wonderful changes in that time. There
has never been a break recorded in the immediate McGillivray family.
