LaVern Ira Lackowski

LaVern “Vern” Ira Lackowski, 74, of Port Hope died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at home with his family.  LaVern was born March 23, 1934 to Ira and Agnes (Ertman) Lackowski in Detroit.  He served his country in the Army and worked as a General Foreman at Detroit Power. He has resided the last 15 years at Port Hope.  He married Lynne Maiers on May 3, 2003 in Mayville.  LaVern’s special interests were hunting, oil painting, and dogs.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lynne; and step-children, Karmon, Tenille, Brent, Susan, Charlotte and Connie; brother, Jim (Marilyn) Lackowski; sisters, Delores Heib and Virginia Bacci.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette; and a brother, Richard.

 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville with Pastor Bob Jones of Scottville officiating. Interment will take place at New River Cemetery of Port Austin at 3 p.m. with Military Honors conducted.  Family will receive visitors from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the Avram Funeral Home, 6028 Lincoln Street, , Mayville, Michigan.  Memorials may be made to the Family Fund. 

 

 

Lorraine (Schulte) Lackowski 
 January 22, 1931 - May 18, 2006
Mrs.  Lorraine Lackowski, 75, of Bad Axe and formerly of Parisville, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006, at her residence under hospice care.  She was born on January 22, 1931 in Harbor Beach to the late Andrew and Emma (Kosal) Schulte.  She married William F. Lackowski on October 7, 1950 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach.  He preceded her in death on July 15, 1993.  Lorraine attended the East Huron Rural School through third grade and went on to Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in Harbor Beach where she graduated in 1950.  She worked at several different jobs while raising her family including farming and gardening.  She and her husband became owners of the Parisville Hotel for 25 years before she retired eight years ago.   They sponsored softball and bowling teams and hosted card clubs and pheasant tail contests where much food and fun was had by all who passed by or stopped over.  Bill and Lorraine were members of the Michigan Beverage Association.  Lorraine enjoyed being a tour leader for Big Daddy Tours from 1994 to 2004.  She was a member of St.  Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she also was a member of the Rosary Sodality.  
 
Lorraine is survived by two daughters: Patricia Eicher, of Frankenmuth; Betty Deachin and her husband, Carey, of Ogden, Utah; three sons: Ronald Lackowski and his wife, Doreen (Pichla) of Bad Axe; Daniel Lackowski and his wife, Karen (Bensinger) of Ubly;  Robert Lackowski and his wife, Colleen (Peruski) of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren: Chad Wilson and his wife, Jeanette (Drago) of Ft.  Walton Beach, Florida; Bobbie Jean Wilson of Port Hope; David, Brandi, Ryan and Brittany Deachin, all of Ogden, Utah; Brian Lackowski and his wife, Morgan (Ewen) of Ubly; Pamela, Billy Joe, and Kimberly Lackowski of Bad Axe; Jared and Kara Lackowski of Ubly; Kyle Lackowski of Vicksburg; three great-grandchildren: Courtney Wilson of Port Hope; Sloan and Ashton Deachin of Ogden, Utah; three sisters-in-law: Jeanette (Lackowski) Lopez and her husband, Al, of Sterling Heights; Marie Schulte of Harbor Beach; Rose Schulte of Marysville; four brothers-in-law: Clarence Lackowski and his wife, Betty, (McMann) of  Frankenmuth;  Marshall "Big Daddy" Lackowski and his wife, Mary Ann (Finelli) of Washington; Alexander Lackowski of Bad Axe; Norman Wolschleger and his wife, Doris of Harbor Beach; many nieces and nephews.   Lorraine was preceded in death by seven brothers: Vincent, Raymond, Andrew, Lawrence, Ivan, Valarian, and Rudolph Schulte; five sisters: Cecilia Chateau, Margaret Weir, Irene Stapleton, Dolores Wolschleger, and Roseleen Schulte; son-in-law, Richard Eicher.    
 
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m.  on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.  The Rev.  Andrzej Boroch, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m.  on Monday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church only.  There will be a family vigil service at 7 p.m.  and a rosary by St. Mary Rosary Sodality at 7:30 p.m.  on Monday at the funeral home.

Richard W. Lackowski

April 3, 1931February 19, 2005

Richard W.  Lackowski of Beaverton (formerly of Roseville) died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Gladwin Living Centre after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was born April 3, 1931 in Harbor Beach.  He was the son of the late Frank and Julia (Kucharczyk) Lackowski.  He has gone to rest with his love Lottie Austin.

 
Surviving are his children from his previous marriage to Genevieve (Peyerk) Hupfer, Kevin (Robin) Lackowski of Imlay City and Lynnette (Paul) Hyde of Troy; grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Nicholas and Noah Lackowski, and Alexander and Rachel Hyde; his sisters, Virginia(Ernie) Watchowski of Bad Axe, Evelyn Peyerk of Filion, Sylvia (Chris) Bartolatta of Roseville, Frances (Robert) Becking of Bad Axe, and Theresa Puvalowski of East Pointe; brothers, Irvin (Jeanette) Lackowski of Warren, Franklin (Shirley) Lackowski of Clinton Township; sisters-in-law, Edna Lackowski of Bad Axe, June Lackowski of Ottawa, Francis Lackowski of Bad Axe; and a host of nieces and nephews; Lottie’s grandchildren, Fred (Renee) Shields of Alabama, Diane (Rodney) Boyer of Tennessee, and Paula (Robert) Wessel of Beaverton, and her six Great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Ray (Gertrude), Ed, Walter, and Cass Lackowski; sisters,
Selma (George) Geiger and Rose (Martin) Collins; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Peyerk.

Chester J. Leppek

August 9, 1923March 15, 2007

Chester J. "Chet" Leppek, 83, former Ubly resident, died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Kenilworth Care and Rehab in Sebring, Florida.   Chet was born in Paris Township.  He served as a Staff Sgt. with the U.S. Marine Air Wing in World War II. Chet served on the Ubly Village Council.  He was a former officer of the TVO and member of the Lions Club and St. John's, all in Ubly.  He retired from the Nestles Company.  He worked in Ubly and Fulton, New York.  He moved to Sebring, Florida in 1982 from Waterloo, New York.  

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Bette; daughter, Linda (Michael) Woods, of Alto; sons, Vern (Linda) Leppek, of Sebring, Florida and Bryce (Katherine) Leppek, of Medford, Oregon; brothers, Melvin (Virginia), Gerald (Frances), Alphonso (Marilyn) and Paul Leppek, all of Michigan; grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Eli and Beth.   Chet was preceded in death by grandson, Jason.  

 

A Funeral Mass with burial at St. John's will be announced at a later date.   Memorials are requested to Sleeper Public Library.  Morris Funeral Chapel in Sebring, Florida is handing the arrangements.

Jerome A. Leppek 

March 8, 1934February 12, 2001

Jerome A. (Jerry) Leppek, 66, of Bay City passed away suddenly Monday morning, February 12, 2001, at Bay Medical Center.   He was born March 8, 1934, to the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Peruski) Leppek in Huron County.  He married Mary Ellen Kosal on June 10, 1961.  Jerome was an active member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and its Ushers Club and Knights of Columbus St. Stephens Council No. 4102.  He retired from Mistequay Group in Saginaw as a machinist.  He was a loving, caring, special person to all of us and everyone he met.   Jerome enjoyed carpentry, gardening and the outdoors with the love of watching birds.  He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen; five loving children, Judy Summers and her husband, Ed, of Auburn, Steven Leppek and his wife, Barb, Jeanette Rudy and her husband, Gary, Roger Leppek and his special friend, Sandy Sheridan, all of Bay City and Colleen Rosenbrock and her husband, Jeremy, of Midland; nine special grandchildren, Lindsey, Breanna and Nathan Summers, Stephen, Danelle and Michelle Leppek, and Kayla Matthew and Erica Rudy; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Raymond Leppek and his wife, Shirley, of Bad Axe, and Paul Leppek and his wife, Bernice, of Coleman; one sister, Grace Richmond of Warren; and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and special friends. 

 

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2001, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Bay City.  Celebrant will be the Rev. Fr. Robert J. Meissner with the Rite of Committal following in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Fisherville.  The Parish Vigil Service will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by the Bible Presentation by the Knights of Columbus St. Stephens Council No. 4102 at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc., 201 W. Midland St., Bay City.   Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family wishes.

Michael J. Leppek

February 8, 1944July 20, 2000

Michael J. Leppek, 56, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday evening, July 20, 2000, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an apparent heart attack.  Born on February 8, 1944, in Bad Axe, he was the son of the late Michael and Beatrice (Getza) Leppek.  On April 1, 1967, he and Mary Ann Messing were married in Warren.  Mike was a graduate of the Ubly High School in the class of 1962 and a former Chrysler employee. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Navy.  He was most recently employed at Huron Casting in Pigeon and was the financial secretary of the United Steel Workers of America.  Mike was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach.  He enjoyed fishing, boating and traveling.  He will be missed very much by his family and friends. 

 

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Leppek, of Harbor Beach; two daughters, Sherry Susalla and her husband, Wayne, of Ruth and Rachael Landucci and her husband, Ron, of Golden, Colorado; a son, Al Leppek and his wife, Jennifer, of Ubly; five grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Susalla of Ruth, Loren, Sara and Dominic Landucci of Golden, Colo.; one sister, Shirley Smith and her husband, Jerry, of Bad Axe. 

 

At Mike's request, cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City and a private family memorial service will take place at a later date.  Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach is handling the arrangements.

Edward W. Maurer

Edward W. Maurer, 93, of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003, in Courtney Manor Nursing Center, Bad Axe, following a long illness.   Born in Paris Township on September 4, 1910, he was the son of the late John and Emma (Heilig) Maurer.   On September 24, 1934, Edward was united in marriage to Minnie Puvalowski in Parisville.  She preceded him in death on April 24, 1978.  On October 18, 1980, in Harbor Beach, Edward was united in marriage to Margaret (Booms) Geiger.   Ed was a retired Sigel Township farmer moving to Harbor Beach in 1973.  He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, and a former member of Most Holy Trinity Church and Choir in Smiths Corner.  Ed also was a former trustee for the Sigel Township Board, and played baseball in the Huron County 
Progressive League.  He was also a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus of the Bad Axe Council.  
 
Ed is survived by his wife, Margaret Maurer, of Harbor Beach; children, Wilfred Maurer and his wife, Betty, of Mt. A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. and a K of C rosary and chalice service at 8 p.m., both in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Saturday at the church.

Grace A. (Leppek) Maurer

June 24, 1916August 18, 2008

Mrs. Grace A. Maurer, 92, a lifelong resident of Ubly, passed away Monday morning, August 18, 2008 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City under hospice care.  Grace was born on June 24, 1916 in Parisville to the late William and Eva (Danielski) Leppek. She married Frederick K. Maurer on October 24, 1938 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2005.  Grace was a graduate of the MacMillan Elementary School.  She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky from 1942 to 1948.  Grace became a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly in November 1948 where she was a member of the Young Ladies Sodality.  Grace was also a former officer and member of the St. John Christian Mothers Circle No. 1, St. Ann’s, since 1948.  She worked for the Ubly Seat Belt Factory from 1972 to 1979.  Grace enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, quilting and her card club.  She truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Grace is survived by two daughters, Doris (Carl) Kolar of Sterling Heights, Marilyn (Jim) Mastie of Cass City; two sons, Fred (Raddie) Maurer of Perry, Gene (Barbara) Maurer of Grand Blanc; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, John (Joan) Maurer of Smith Corners; two sisters-in-law, Betty Maurer of Smith Corners, Magdeline Leppek of Rapson; several nieces and nephews.  Grace was preceded in death by one brother, Zig Leppek; and an infant brother and sister.

 

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Margaret (Booms) Geiger Maurer

Margaret Geiger Maurer, 89, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital.   Born December 2, 1916 in Harbor Beach, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bischer) Booms.   Margaret and Norman Geiger were united in marriage on December 29, 1937 in Helena.  Norman preceded her in death on December 8, 1976.  She married Edward Maurer on October 18, 1980 in Harbor Beach.  Ed preceded her in death on September 24, 2003.   Margaret was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society, the Legion of Mary and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a former member of the Port Hope Retirees Club and bowling league, the Harbor Beach Senior Citizens, and the Farm Bureau. Margaret enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, drawing and artwork, and working with her flowers and gardening. She loved her grandchildren (especially the babies) and playing cards.   
 
She is survived by her children, Carol (Jim) Mazure, of Harbor Beach, John (Joyce) Geiger, of Bad Axe, Bob (Donna) Geiger, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Harvey (Rose Marie) Geiger, of Harbor Beach, Peggy (Ken) Weber, of Harbor Beach, Paulette (Paul) Wehner, of Harbor Beach, Warren (Barb) Geiger, of Harbor Beach, Della (Don) Wolschleger, of Harbor Beach, Nona (Dennis) Parak, of Shelby Township, and Julie (Dave) Messing, of Harbor Beach; a sister, Rosaline Messing, of Harbor Beach; son-in-law, Bill White, of Harbor Beach; sister-in-laws, Florence Booms, of Bad Axe, and Rita Booms, of Harbor Beach, Evelyn Kraft, of Clinton Township, and Carolyn (Ray) LeGault, of Harbor Beach; a brother-in-law, Clarence Geiger, of Harbor Beach. Also surviving are 48 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, in addition to step children: Jane (Richard) Messing, of Harbor Beach, Ron (Pat) Maurer, of Frankenmuth; step daughter-in-law, Betty Maurer, of Mount Morris, and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.  Margaret was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda White, and a son, Leslie Geiger; brothers, Roman, Arthur, Wilfred, Leroy, Leonard, and Bernard Booms; sisters, Clara Roggenbuck, Alma Messing, Loretta Dropiewski, Bernetta Messing and Emma Geiger; and step children, Donald Maurer, Wilfred Maurer, Joan Maurer, and Jean Oberski.   
 
A funeral mass for Margaret will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church with Fr. T.J. Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Church Cemetery in Helena.

Patricia A. (Osentoski) Maurer
July 14, 1939 – May 24, 2009

Patricia A. Maurer, 69, of Frankenmuth passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Meadow View Manor in Saginaw.  Pat was born July 14, 1939 in Sanilac County to the late Stanley and Bertha (Grifka) Osentoski.  She married Ronald Maurer October 11, 1958 in Ubly, Michigan .  He survives her.  Pat worked in the banking industry in Frankenmuth for many years and the Emil Rummel Agency for several years before her retirement.  She was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and its altar society.

 

Surviving are two daughters and four sons, Diane (Mark) Fargo of Ada, Kevin (Carol) Maurer of Frankenmuth, Brian (Penny) Maurer of Skillman, New .Jersey, Scott (Lisa) Maurer of Frankenmuth, Myron (Jodi) Maurer of Frankenmuth, Cindy (Chad) Schroeder of Saginaw; 20 grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Elmer (Helen) Osentoski of Ubly, John (Mary) Osentoski of Ubly, Jane (Richard) Maurer of Ruth, Mary Alice (Jeffrey) Greene of Rodney, Lorraine Kzinowek of Essexville; and many nieces and nephews.  A brother, Henry Osentoski, predeceased her.

 

Mass of Christian burial took place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Fr.
