1. CHRISTIAN P.1 FRIEND was born Jan 1832 in Pennsylvania, and died 1909 in Kent County-Oak Grove Cemetery. He married SARAH SIMPSON Abt. 1856. She was born Mar 1830 in England, and died 1919 in Kent County-Oak Grove Cemetery.

Oak Grove Cemetery was in Paris Township, Kent County, Michigan. 28th Street and Kalamazoo

Avenue SE. Their daughter, Alice, is buried on the same lot.

Obituary-Christian P. Friend, aged 77 years, died yesterday morning at home, 527 Horton avenue. Funeral services will be held from the residence at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. G. R. Herald, December 15, 1909, Pg. 7, col. 4)

Obituar - Sarah (Simpson) Friend - Woemen Pioneers, both residents of Kent 66 years, die. Two pioneer residents, each of whom had lived in Kent County more than three score years, are dead. Each lived here 66 years. Mrs. C. P. Friend, mother of F. G. Friend, 267 Eastern avenue S.E., died Monday morning at the residence of her son after having lived in this county 66 years. Mrs. Friend was married in 1853 and came to this county with her husband the same year, when they settled in Gaines township. A few years later they moved to East Paris where one son now resides. She moved to this city 21 years ago. Her husband has been dead nine years. Surviving are five sons, Martin of Petoskey; Will, East Paris; Fred, Grand Rapids;Charles, Six Lakes; and Byron of Saranac. Sixteen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.

3. FREDERICK G.2 FRIEND (CHRISTIAN P.1) was born Feb 1862, and died in 1919-Grand Rapids, MI. He married ALICE NELLIST Abt. 1886, daughter of WILLIAM NELLIST and MARTHA BOWMAN. She was born Jun 1866.

Obituary-Fred G. Friend, aged 86, former Ada High School principal and Grand Rapids building contractor, died Tuesday at his home 267 Eastern Ave., SE. Surviving are his wife, Alice; a daughter, Mrs. Orson E. Munn, two sons, Fay and Keith, all of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Martin of Petoskey and Byron of Saranac; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the Metcalf Chapel. Dr. William H. Helrigel of Trinity Methodist Church will officiate. Interment in Garfield Park Cemetery (Sec. 7, Lot 32, Grave 5)

F. P. Friend dies at 71.

He was active in Y.M., Santa Claus girls; of 4131 E. Fulton St., treasurer of Central Y's Mens Club for 23 years and in charge of routing deliveries for the Santa Calus Girls for more than 30 years, died Wednesday. Born in Lake Odessa, Mr. Friend came to Grand Rapids in 1901. A life member of York Lodge, F. & A.M., and Trinity Methodist Church since 1908. Mr. Friend was territorial manager for the Curtis Publishing Co. for 35 years, until his retirement in 1959.

Surviving are his wife, Glenna Daughtery Friend; a sister, Mrs. Orson E. Munn, and brother, W. Keith, both of Grand Rapids; three children, Robert C., teasching in Asia; D. Russell, on the faculty of University of Delaware, and Peggy, now living on Ibizza, a Mediterranean island; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body will be at the Eggebeen Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Methoids Church with Rev. Donn R. Doten of Trinity Church and Rev. Eugene G. Slep of Immanual Presbyterian Church, officiating. Cremation will follow. Obituary - Mrs. Sadie F. Munn, aged 87, wife of Orson E. Munn, passed away Sunday afternoon at the M. J. Clark Memorial home. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Florence (Jack) Baines of Sparta and Mrs. Martha (Paul K.) Schneider of Cleveland; a brother, W. Keith Friend of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Munn was taken to the Metcalf Mortuary where the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral services will be in the Clark Memorial Home Chapel at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Lawrence R. Taylor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. (Vicki) Friend of Ft. Myers, Fl, Barbara Birdsall Friend of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Mr. Friends was a member of the Y's Men's Club, and long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Meeting House of Porter Hills Presbyterian Village, Rev. Hank Post, Chaplain officiating.
