Obituary of Mrs. Johannes Barendse

Burns Cause Death
(Grandville Avenue Record, December 17, 1916 – Pg. 8)

Mrs. Johannes Barendse of 339 Franklin Street, S.W., was burned to death on Monday morning early while in the act of cooking breakfast. Mr. Barendse, who is employed by the Standard Builders’ Supply company across the way, had gone to work early. On returning for his breakfast he found his wife dead in front of the stove and the floor and walls afire. She evidently had been using kerosene to aid her in kindling the fire and an explosion followed igniting her clothing. The deceased was 51 years old and leaves a husband and three children.
