12/1944 - Oscar A. Ogren

The unexpected death of Oscar A. Ogren, bookkeeper of the club for

the past 32 years, on Friday morning Dec. 1, at Butterworth Hospital, was a source of

deep regret to everyone in the club membership to whom he was well known and highly

regarded.

Oscar, as he was familiarly known about the club, had not been in good health since

undergoing an appendectomy two years ago, but his death came as a shock to his many

friends. He had worked at the club office on Thursday. Thursday evening he suffered a

heart attack and later was removed to the hospital where he succumbed Friday morning.

He came to Grand Rapids at the age of 17 from Ludington., his birthplace. He was

57 years old. Besides the widow, Mary, he is survived by three sons, Cpl. Robert C.,

in the South Pacific area. Russell C., and Charles C., both of Grand Rapids, three

daughters, Maurine and Marjorie of Grand Rapids, and Mary Louise in Nurses

Training school at Ann Arbor; a brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec 4, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
