Melvin C. Pease

The Grand Rapids Press-Death Claims Officer Pease-Patrolman for 11 years Passes Unexpectedly at His Home--Patrolman Melvin C. Pease, 32, of 821 Joslin-st., S.E., member of the Grand Rapids police department for more than 11 years, died Friday at his residence.

Patrolman Pease had been in ill health for several months but death was unexpected. He arose about 6:30 Friday morning and appeared to be in good spirits. He retired again and was found dead shortly before 8 o’clock.

Pease was born in Danville, Ill., on Nov. 19, 1905. After spending three years in the United States army and qualifying as expert gunner and sharpshooter, he entered the police department at the age of 21 on March 28, 1927.

Besides the widow, Beatrice, three children, Dolores, Dixie Lee and Barbara Ann, and his father, Charles Pease of RFD No. 2, Ada survive.

The body reposes at the Greenhoe mortuary. Funeral services will be held there at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. (This has a picture of Officer Pease attached)
