DEATH OF A PIONEER – JACOB REELMAN
(Grandville Avenue Record, January 25, 1918 – P. 8)

After only a brief illness, but after being in delicate health, Jacob Reelman, of 733 Grandville avenue, died at his late home on Sunday evening, aged 64 years. The deceased was a pioneer resident of Grandville avenue, locating here some 49 years ago.

He was born in Germany in 1845 and after becoming of age, came to New York, where he was married to his wife, now surviving him (nee Miss Carrie Eddinger). Later on they moved to Grand Rapids, and located on Grandville avenue. He built at one time the Reelman block, corner of Rumsey street, the home where he died; two homes on Underhill avenue, and a residence on Rumsey street. These are some of the property interests that he had accumulated in his life time. He was a man of rather a quiet nature as we recall our acquaintance.

Mr. Reelman was quite active until very recently. He was on of the regular panel of jurors in the December term of court as was the writer. He spoke of his not feeling strong, but did not complain of illness

He leaves besides his widow (prostrated with grief), four children, one daughter, Mrs. Julia Carter of Jacksonville, FL, who was here to attend the funeral; one daughter, Mrs. Peter Yonkman (now at home); two sons, George Reelman of Detroit and Carl Reelman of Ohio.

Funeral services were held yesterday from his late residence, Rev. H. McConnell officiating.
