Death of a Pioneer

John B. Tubergen, Shoe and Repair Shop

John B. Tubergen, a pioneer of Grandville avenue, was found dead in his store last Thursday. He had not been well for some time, but death came unexpected to his family. The deceased was born in the Netherlands and was married at Graaschap, Michigan to his wife, who survives him.

He entered in the shoe and repair business on Grandville avenue about twenty-five years ago, and has since that time been a prominent factor in trade circles, although a man of a quiet nature.

He leaves besides his widow, three daughters and one son, John, who is in the government service as an aviator, located at Fortwood, Bedlow Island, N. Y. A message was sent him, but the military authorities would not grant him leave of absence to attend the funeral. Mr. Tubergen had reached the age of 69 years at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held on Monday from his home, corner of Grandville avenue and Martha street and from the Franklin Street Christian Reformed church, Rev. Veltkamp officiating.  Burial in Oakhill cemetery.
