An Outstanding Fire Insurance Company

Acknowledgement: This History of Lowell has been made possible largely through the great generosity of the business men and institutions mentioned in the following pages. Grateful acknowledgement is extended.

The State Mutual Rodded Fire Insurance Company was organized in 1908. At that time there was no company in the United States granting a discount or credit on assessments or premiums where property was equipped with lightning rods. Inasmuch as losses from lightning constituted a very large percentage of farm fire losses the founders of this company believed that by insurance only buildings properly protected by lightning rods that it would give its members protection at a very little cost. Their idea was fundamentally sound and proved true until the arrival of the more modern fire hazards such as cigarettes, automobiles, bad wood shingle roofs, etc.

The founders of this company as well as its succeeding officers also proposed to write a policy that was particularly adaptable to the needs of the farmer, giving him maximum coverage at reasonable cost. With this in mind they write a blanket policy upon personal property insuring contents of dwelling house in one amount and farm personal in one amount. In many policies these two items are classified into several coverages. Many provisions and restrictions limiting the liability of the company in case of loss commonly found in policies of insurance in other companies are not found in the policy of the State Mutual Rodded Fire Insurance Company. They believed that a policy which gives a farmer more protection at a reasonable rate is preferable to a "cheap" policy with many restrictions.

This company makes a difference in rates on rodded and unrodded property. It allows discount in assessments on dwellings (contents included, if occupied by owner.) if completely covered with fire-resisting roof. It grants a discount in assessments if one Liberty fire Extinguisher for each $1000 or fraction thereof of insurance carried is placed about the buildings insured.

The State Mutual Rodded Fire Insurance Company has become the largest Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company in the State. It has over $450,000.00 assets and net resources. It has paid farmers over $422,319.72 in losses since its organization.

A good policy at an honest price. Gives satisfaction and saves worry. Don’t just buy an insurance policy, buy protection.
