Charles H. Moore

Charles H. Moore, third son of Edward and Mary (Blance) Moore, was born in Wilshire, England 22 Mar 1829. When nine years of age he was taught to make shoe nails, afterward learned the blacksmith’s trade in his father’s shop and continued as an occupation his entire life.

On 24 Nov 1853, he married Harriet Brown in London, England. They have four children. In the fall of 1855, after staying in New York for three months, and spending sometime in a gold mine in Georgia, he went to Ontonagon, Michigan.

Fourteen months later he bought 40 acres in section 6, Gaines township, later adding more in section1, Byron township; had than 100 acres under good cultivation. His wife died in Gaines, 3 Jul 1867. Later he married Stella M. Meekens. Mr. Moor served as constable for two years, and eight years as School Assessor. His faith was Adventist, and in politics, a Greenbacker.
