 Agosa Family at Presbyterian Church Photo taken about 1935. Building is the front of the Presbyterian church in Omena. Man on left is Paul Agosa (1876-1954). Man on right wearing white is John Agosa (1867-1951). Both are direct descendants of Chief Agosa, who moved his band from Old Mission to Omena in 1852.  James and Mary Fisher Family James Fisher (1865-1915) was my grandfather, Mary (1875-1949) was my grandmother. Archie Miller and the unnamed young woman standing were also in the group photo dated 1899 I sent earlier. Ella Fisher (1899-1975) was my aunt, Ed Fisher (1903-1972), my uncle.  Naganse Farmhouse I took this photo myself in April 1977. I was standing on the shoulder of M22 in Peshawbestown looking to the northwest. My mother Isabel Fisher Dembinski (1914-2001) is standing. Behind her is the foundation of the Naganse farmhouse. This house burned down 4 January 1972. My uncle Ed Fisher (1903-1972) died in the blaze. Most of my mother's family's records were destroyed in that fire. About 1980 the remains of the house were removed and what is now the Leelanau Sands Casino was erected there. The hill seen in the background and to the right is where the Grand Traverse Band motel is now located. Contributed by: A. Dembinski |
 Naganse Family I found this photo in 2006. It had been stored in a trunk since 1922. The photo shows water & mold damage. I identified most of the individuals from other photos I have, and so was able to set the date of the photo at 1899 because of the birthdates of specific pictured individuals. The labels are part of the photo. The pictured house stood where the main entrance of the Leelanau Sands Casino now stands, on the west side of M-22 in Peshawbestown.  Ed Wakazoo (1893-1962) & Mabel Fisher (1908-1992) They are wearing regalia for some kind of pageant in the Grand Traverse area. Photo taken about 1930. Mabel is my aunt, born & raised in Leelanau County. Ed is the grandson of Chief Peter Wakazoo, who moved his band of Odawa from the Old Wing Mission in southern Michigan to the Northport area in June 1849. Ed's father Joseph Wakazoo, lived in Leelanau County from 1849 to about 1870, when he moved to Minnesota, was ordained there as an Episcopal deacon in 1887 & spent the rest of his life in church work on Indian reservations there. Joseph served in Co. K, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters in the Civil War. Ed was born in Minnesota and moved back to the lower peninsula of Michigan after serving in the US Army in WWI.
