Lenawee County Michigan
Charles Vincent Wright

Name: Charles Vincent Wright
Born: Alma, Michigan and lived most of his life here in Michigan.
Married: Barbara Louise Colvin Wright a great-granddaughter of Charles and Nellie Colvin of Hudson, Michigan.

Charles loved genealogy and worked throughout his life archiving records on both sides of his family (Colvins and Wrights).

His daughter Mary has found many photographs, clippings (obituaries/weddings), letters having to do with Medina and Hudson in her father's collection. From time to time she will hopefully be sharing some ofthese with us.

Found in Charles's papers attached to a manuscript was the following note written by Charles to his mother-in-law:

Lansing, Michigan
Feburary 25, 1963

Dear mother Colvin,

During the summer of 1961 I was traveling down around Lenawee County with my calls on small independent telephone companies and at Clayton ran across an old historical volume written by someone in Hudson in the 1870's. This book was owned by a lady, then in her late 90's, and I was able to borrow the book to make a copy of it. Shirley and Pauline [my father's secretaries]typed away at copying this book for me in the next few months . . .

I am sending it along to you thinking you might like to at least scan it for references to your family or to other names which you might know. The book is not particularly well written and much of it is devoted to lists of soldiers, township officers and the like. However, there are some interesting narratives including the story of the Colvins' "38 cent per gallon whiskey."

We made a second copy which I am going to put in the genealogical section of the Michigan State Library.

Signed,
Vincent

Gallery page 7 has two photos submitted by Charles Wright's daughter, Mary Wright. One is Charles and Nellie Colvin's 50th anniversary family photo. The second is of the old Colvin home in Medina.
