Stanwood in the News

Thursday December 2, 1886

Winter is here.

Peter Koch the attorney, has been appointed town clerk in place of W.S. Tucker

Wonder if we are to have a Christmas tree. Pretty near time to think about it.

Our shoe and harness maker has arrived. The Herald Correspondent can now get his soul repaired.

Reported that Mr. Wilson will move into town as soon as Mr. Gilmore vacates the house he now occupied.

Mr. Davis was chosen leader of the class which was recently organized here by the Methodist denomination.

The law-suit between J.B. VanAuken, plaintiff, and James Corbett, defendant, was decided in favor of the plaintiff.

The dances were a success, so far as we learned. There was a fair crowd at both places, and all appeared to enjoy themselves, especially D. and N.

' As regards the death and burial of C.F. Barnard's mother, the Herald correspondent is right. We should have said Howell, instead of Lowell.

Yes, we said there was a slim crowd at the I.O.G.T. social, and so there was. We understand the receipts were $4, or nearly that amouint. We did not belittle the organization, and no sensible person would accuse us of so doing.

We do not like to criticize, but the Stanwood correspondent for the Herald was off his base when he said that Aaron Austin had lost three mares. He did not lose any horses -- only some cattle that were supposed to have been poisoned. And there is no H.W. Newhall in this vicinity, as anybody knows of.
