We were called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. John Maguire, another of the aged citizens of Mecosta County. Mary Miller was born in New York State, married Mr. John Maguire in 1832, and became a resident of this community in 1862. At that time this was an almost unbroken forest and those who have had the experiene know full wel the trials and hardships of pioneer life. Being a devoted wife and loving mother she toiled and strove with her husband to help provide a home in the dense wilds for themselves and family. Prosperity smiled upon them and just as its glistening beams were being unfolded Mrs. Maguire's reason was dethroned, and for several years she has been under the tender and unequalled care of Mrs. Emmers Maguire. She was a devoted and exemplary christian lady and it is seldom the lot of a person to depart this life leaving so large a circle of friends. An aged husband and four children survive her.

Angel hands have crowned her in the bright beyond and in ecstacy of bliss which she enjoys the misfortunes and sorrows of this life will be forgotten.
