Death of Margaret McFarlane

At 4 o'clock Monday afternoon, December 27, Mrs. Margaret McFarlane, mother of Peter McFarlane, of the township of Green, quietly passed away, after a few days of suffering. She was not confined to her bed at all, being up but two or three hours before she died.

Deceased was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, in the year 1800, making her about 87 years of age at the time of her death. When about 32 years old she accompanied her husband and children to this country and located near Huntington, Lower Canada, where she resided for about 43 years. Since the death of her husband, which occurred about fifteen years ago, she has lived with her son Peter McFarlane. She was the mother of ten children, five of them - John, Alex, Andres, Peter and Neil - now residing in this vicinity. Two of her children died in Scotland and three died while crossing the ocean, thirteen weeks weeks being devoted to the voyage. Twenty-one of her grandchildren and four great grand-children are now living.

About thirteen years ago she accompanied her son and family to the township of Green, near this city. Nearly all the residents of this community were well acquainted with the aged mother, who's death is here recorded, and only love and respect can be reared toher memory. The funeral was held last Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church of which she was a member for more than sixty years.
