Village of Mecosta
Big Rapids Current
Thursday November 6, 1870

The new village called Mecosta between Blanchard and Big Rapids, is making rapid strides in building and promises to become a place of considerable importance, possibly more so than is now dreamed of in the philosophy of the Big Rapids people, as there is some talk of making that the permanent county seat of Mecosta county. It is favorably located on the Muskegon river in the center of the county, and on the line of the Stanton Branch R.R., about midway between Big Rapids and Blanchard. Dr. E. LaGrange, late of this place, has started a hotel there, which is already overrun with customers. He called at our office this week and informed us that the place is settling up fast, and that building is going on there very rapidly. The indications are that Edmore will be no where by the side of it in a little while. The iron on the railroad track is now laaid six miles beyonf Blanchard and within five miles of the new village. It will be connected by rail with the outer world during November.
