The subject of this sketch was born in Milford, Ontario, March 7, 1873. He came to Big Rapids in 1891 where he was employed as clerk in the hardware store of A.E. Wells. Later when Mr. Wells engaged in the clothing and gent's furnishings business he continued in his employ and became his successor in business about eight years ago, since which time he has built up a solid and successfull business, having gained the confidence of the public by his close attention to business and honest dealings.

He carries a fine line of clothing, men's furnishings, hats caps, trunks, valises, etc., and a very pretty view of the innterior of his store is shown herewith. Mr. Blakely's thorough knowledge of the business enables him to offer superior goods at lowest prices and he has a large and growing trade in consequence. He is unmarried and a popular favorite in business and social circles.

His place of business is in a promenent location on Michigan avenue, the principal business street of the city.
