EATERIES FOR ALL TASTES

McDonalds, Bennigan's, Burger King, New China Town, Subway, Pepper's, Applebee's, Arby's, Pizza King, Eastside Cafe... and the list goes on and on. So does the list and cuisine of restaurants and eateries that have come and gone. Some of those include (top left) a popular attraction among the younger set of yesteryears, Johnnie Buck's Ice Cream Parlor, which was located on South Michigan near the theatre, the Greek restaurant of Gus Mallis which drew a lot of customers to the location at 116 S. Michigan, the Satellite Restaurant, the very first Big Rapids fast food establishment, which was open from 1962-1969 before Ferris State College biought it up for expansion of the campus, and (bottom) the Durgy O. Baldwin Restaurant, location unknown. The picture was taken in 1907 with a simple notation on the back that it was a "banquet for Big Rapids powers to be." (Pioneer file photos)
