Amos Dorwin

Company H, 19th Michigan Infantry

Amos is shown in the 1860 census (p. 961) for Brooks Twp, Newaygo Cty, MI. Was a millwright in Quincy, MI, before enlisting at Coldwater, MI, on August 7, 1862, for a three year term in Company H of the 19th Michigan Infantry. On March 5, 1863, they fought in the first engagement at Thompson's Station, TN. They were captured and sent to Libby Prison. After release from prison, they went north again and reorganized at Camp Chase, OH. Fought in Georgia and N. Carolina until the end of the Civil War, participating in Sherman's March to the Sea. Mustered out at Washington, DC, on June 10th, 1865, and returned to Coldwater, MI, on June 13, 1865.
