Alanson enlisted at Whitmore Lake, Michigan at the age of 18 for 3 years of service on September 10, 1861and took the muster oath on October 14, 1861. He re-enlisted as a Corporal on January 10, 1864 at LaGrange, Tennessee . He was promoted to Sergeant before he was mustered out at San Antonio, Texas on February 12, 1866 His post war address was Ithaca, Michigan.
