William Almas

William Almas

Company G, 7nd Michigan Infantry

Originally from Ontario, Canada, William was from Lapeer, Michigan, when he enlisted on August 7, 1861, for three years service at age 18. He reputedly lied about his age to enlist. He took the muster oath on August 22, 1861. He was killed in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 3, 1863, during the repulse of the Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble charge. He is buried at Gettysburg National Cemetery in the Michigan Plot, Grave number C-#7. His name is also spelled as Almouth in some records.
