From Steuben, Indiana, George enlisted for 3 years service at Adrian, Michigan, on June 20, 1861, at the age of 20. He was seriously wounded and captured on July 2, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa. He was released and recovered from his wounds attaining the rank of Corporal before he was discharged at the end of his term of service at Detroit, Michigan, on December 23, 1863.
