From Branch, Michigan, Jacob enlisted July 28, 1862 at Coldwater for three years service at the age of 36. He mustered into the service on September 5, 1862. He was discharged for disability at Nashville, Tennessee, on June 5, 1863. He is buried in Ruthland Cemetery in Barry Co., Michigan.
