John Mulford Raymond

John Mulford Raymond

Unassigned, 11th Infantry

There is very little on John's service history other than he was discharged at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 5, 1864, at the end of his 3 year enlistment.

A narrative from a decedent states, "He enlisted late (5 Dec 1861)? He was recently orphaned, 14 years old, and was assigned to be Drummer Boy. Became known as "Kid Raymond" for obvious reasons. His uncle was William N. Elliott, the 1st Surgeon.

In later years, he was a National Drum Major for the Society of Civil War Musicians. He had postcards made up of himself... above is a scan of one from Hudson, Michigan."
