From West Bloomfield, Robert enlisted August 11, 1862, at Pontiac for 3 years service at age 18. He was wounded in action and captured at Chickamauga, Georgia, on September 20, 1862. He was returned to the Regiment on November 5, 1863. Promoted to Sergeant on June 6, 1865. He was mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee, on June 26, 1865. His postwar residence was at Pontiac, Michigan. He died May 2, 1920 and is buried in the Commerce Cemetery at Commerce, Michigan.
