Company G, 1st Michigan Infantry

Louis enlisted in Company H on April 20, 1862 at Ypsilanti, Michigan, for 3 months service at the stated age of 40. He took the muster oath on May 1, 1861. He was mustered out at Detroit, Michigan, on August 7, 1861.

On September 12, 1861, at Belleville, Michigan, he re-enlisted in Company G of the 1st Infantry as a Corporal for 3 years of service. He took the muster oath on September 16, 1861, In the records his name was then spelled as Louis rather than Lewis. He was killed at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) on August 30, 1862. His body was buried on the field; but a memorial stone for him was placed in Pleasant View Cemetery (formerly known as Soop Cemetery) in Van Buren County, Michigan.
