Albert was drafted from Ferris, Montcalm County, Michigan, on for 1 year of service at age 41 on September 28, 1864. He was captured on March 20, 1865 at Bentonville, North Carolina. He was paroled and discharged from the service at Camp Chase, Ohio on June 15, 1865.
