Death of Mrs. Hinds
October 13, 1902

Mrs. Mary Sherwood Hinds, wife of Hon. Henry H. Hinds, died at her home in this city [Stanton] Monday morning at 6:30, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, which she suffered on Oct 2d.   For some days after her affliction it was hoped she would recover, but on Saturday her symptoms became discouraging, and her daughter, Alma, and son, Sherwood, were called home from Lansing. During the entire day Sunday she continued to fail, and on Monday morning came the release from earth and its ills.

Mrs. Hinds came to Stanton from her home in Pennsylvania some thirty years ago as a happy bride of eighteen years, and since that time this place has been her home. She was highly esteemed by a wide circle of acquaintances, and had many dear friends here who deeply mourn her death. She was a charter member of the First Congregational church, in which she was ever a faithful worker. She was a woman of much ability and was well known throughout the state, having been a prominent worker in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Woman's Relief Corps and the State Grange. She had been president of the W.R.C. Department of Michigan and was at the time of her death chairman of the Woman's Work Committee of the State Grange.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son and three daughters, who have the sympathy of the entire community.

The funeral was held at the home on Camburn avenue Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. Philip E. Bauer, pastor of the Congregational church.
