George S. Bishop - Civil War Letters

George S. Bishop was born in New York (abt. 1836) and was a resident of Oakfield Township, Kent County by 1850.   He lived with his parents Edmond and Sophronia Bishop (per 1850 census) just over the county line from Montcalm County on what is now M57 west of Greenville.

George enlisted as a Private on September 10, 1861 at the age of 25, and in Company F, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Michigan on October 02 1861.   Family stories indicate George fell off a river boat on his way home after the war ended and he drowned.
