Merle Gavitt - WWII

During basic training Merle earned the sharpshooter medal. The Army was going to train him to be a sniper. Instead he was sent to Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and spent several months being trained in the use of skis. He was then sent to France, where his knowledge of electricity was put to use wiring up the heavy artillery canons. He never saw another pair of skis while in the Army.
