My ggrandfather/mother lived in Alleyton, Newaygo Co., MI from about 1869-70 to 1880. That's a little deceiving: my ggf, Charles Nahum SHAW, and his first wife, Mary Ellen THORP(E) moved to Alleyton around 1869-70 with their 4 children, Willis N., Nellie M., Charles J., George E. A 5th child was born in Alleyton in 11/1873, Melvin. In 11/1874, Mary Ellen died and, as far as I know, was buried there at Alleyton. Charles remarried a year later to Emma Eliza SHATTUCK (my ggrandmother) in Sparta, Kent Co., MI. I have numerous letters written by her telling of Charlie's meat business, socials they either went to or had at their home, many accounts of people dying, etc. If you have any information on these surnames, please contact me. Thanks...

Searching for descendents of Albert and Mary Jane MORRISON (POLITE) of Ashland. Mary Jane was the daughter of Janett and David POLITE of Bailey of Casnovia township. She was born approx. 1845 in Branch County Michigan and moved to Muskegon county with her family around 1861. Albert and Mary Jane had eight children, Fred, Jennie, Ida, James, Maudie, Earl, James and George and they lived their entire life in Ashland in Newaygo county. Her father David's parentage and origins remain a mystery to me. On most of the Cenus records that I can find, his place of birth is usually noted as (at sea) or (atlantic ocean). One time though it was noted at Canada and then later New York. He would have been born around 1817. I assume from this that he was born at sea on voyage over to the U.S. I have been unable to determine Janett's maiden name, although she notes that she was born in Ireland. A query to another county gave me some promising information. I was told that Janett may have been a sister to a Margaret GAGE, if that is so her parent's names were Nancy and Joseph KIDD and that they came to the U.S. around 1826 from Ireland. I would like any information possible, I also thought it would be nice if someone had any family pictures that I would be able to look at. I have a picure of David POLITE that was taken in Bailey around 1865-1870 with a pair of oxen and hay wagon if any family members would like to see it

I'm trying to connect my 2nd great-grandfather, Willard HUNTOON, b. Oct. 1869 in Michigan, to the HUNTOONs of New Hampshire. The problem is that I can't figure out who Willard's parents were (father b. NY, mother b. MI). I have tried the census index published by the State Library of Michigan but am having trouble locating Willard in the 1870 census. In about 1893, Willard married Ida May BELL, b. May 1877 in Michigan. They lived in Bridgeton in Newaygo County, but moved into Muskegon County later. Their five surviving children were Ethel, Lila, Beatrice, Reva, and Willard Jr. I'm also stuck on Ida's parents' names. Her father's brother may have been Alex BELL, born about 1834 in New York.
