Funeral services were held Monday at the Weaver Funeral home for Mrs. Otie Riddell, 77, of Hart, who passed away last Thursday at Portsmouth, Va., where she had been visiting a daughter, Mrs. Frances Ostrander. Buried in Hart cemetery. Mrs. Riddell was born in 1881 at Marshall. She was married to George Riddell in 1899 at Battle Creek and they lived in Wisconsin until coming to Hart in 1913 to make their home. Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Ostrander and Mrs. Ruth Ribe of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Clarence of Whitehall and Richard of Warren, Arizona; 8 gr. Children, and three grt grand children. Mr. Riddell passed away in 1949.

Mr. Link was employed 8 years in the tool room at the Getty Street plant retiring in 1959. He was born July 27, 1894 at Williamston and attended schools of that city. He moved to Muskegon from Lansing in 1926. Mr. Link was married to the former Meta Russel in Lansing on Dec 23, 1916. He was a member of the 50 member club of the Moose Lodge. He leaves his wife; four sons; Russell, Glen Jr. and William all of Muskegon and Edwyn of Chicago, two daughters; Mrs. Floyd McGahan of Muskegon and Mrs. Thomas Christian of Chicago, a brother Raymond of St. Johns, two sisters, Mrs. Frances Jenkins of Lansing and Mrs. Josie Deakins of Hastings and 20 grand children. Smith, Clare L. born December 12, 1896, died April 1962, husband of Lillie Gregoryre & Gertrude Sprunger. He was active for many years in sawmills here and at Hesperia, died at him home in Ferry, Monday following a short illness. He was 65. Mr. Smith was born in Ferry December 12, 1896. He followed his father, Herbert T. Smith in the crate works, the later had founded. In 1933 he bought his father’s interest and became sole owner. He purchased the Hesperia mill in 1957. Mr. Smith turned operation of the enterprises over to his four sons in 1959. Mr. Smith was active in the Ferry Methodist Church and in the Oceana Conservation League. He had served on the Oceana County draft board for the past 15 years. He was married in March 1915 to Lillie Gregoire. She died in May 1921. Mr. Smith then married Gertrude Sprunger in Bern, Indiand July 5, 1924. He is survived by his widow, four sons, Lamont of Hesperia, Lawrence of Hart, Bradley & Roger of Ferry, three daughters Mrs. Donna Simms of Pentwater, Mrs. Verl Sanderson of Kalamazoo and Mrs. Mary Glover of Ionia, a brother Mark of Plainwell, 2 sisters Mrs. Grace Mason & Mrs. Ruth Hinds of Ferry and 17 grand children. Funeral service @ Cooper Funeral Home in Shelby @ 2 p.m. Thurs. with burial in Ferry.

Draft, John C. 72 of 519 Johnson Street, Hart, Michigan, died early today @ Hackley Hospital, Muskegon, Michigan, after 6 weeks illness. Mr. Draft was born November 6, 1890 in New Era and attended schools there. He spent most of his life at Hart, where he was a meat cutter. In later years he owned a meat market at Hart, and was employed at Hart Gamble Store. He was a member of the Congregational Church. Surviving are four brothers: Rollie of Newport Richey, Florida, Bert of New Era, Andrew of Grand Rapids, Dick of Grand Haven. Funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Weds. at Clock funeral Chapel, Muskegon. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Muskegon.

J. D. Talmadge, Crane Worker 23 Years, Dies. John D. Talmadge, 64, of 71 N. Muskegon Drive, Egelston Township, who had been employed 23 years as a machinist at Shaw-Box Crane Division, died Friday night at home after a heart attack. Mr. Talmadge was born Oct. 24, 1898, in Algoma, Wis. He lived in Frankfort before moving to Dalton Township, and spent most of his life in Muskegon County. He married the former Ruth H. Stitt June 16, 1922, in Hesperia. He was a member of the union at Shaw-Box Crane. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Tom of Muskegon and Ted of Nunica; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Seabrook of Grant and Mrs. Richard Ritz of Conklin; five brothers, George Talmadge of Muskegon, and Carl Talmadge of Moline, Ill., George Richmond of Beach, N.D., and Harry and James Richmond of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Nina Russell of Flint, and Lucille and Mabel Richmond of Sturgeon Bay, and 14 grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mrs. Puffer will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from The Clock Chapel. Interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery. Puffer, Lottie M. (Frees) 66, of 2843 S. Madison St. died Tuesday at Hackley Hospital after an illness of three days. The former Lottie May Frees, she was born June 20, 1897, in Oceana County, where she attended schools. She came to the Muskegon area from ferry more than 10 yrs ago. She was married to Ira Puffer at Ferry in April, 1915. Mr. Puffer died in 1934. Mrs. Puffer was a member of Trinity Reformed Church. She leaves three sons, R.E Puffer, Raymond and Max, all of Muskegon area, four daughters, Mrs. William Knighton, Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Clark McQueen, Mrs. A.J. Hughes, and Mrs. John Policka, all of Muskegon; three brothers, LaVerne, Glennie, and Edward Frees, all of Ferry, two sisters, Mrs. Joe Miller of Muskegon and Mrs. Malon Isley of Shelby; 19 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Irving Puffer Montague Irving C. Puffer, 68 of Hart Township, Oceana County, a former long time resident of Montague, died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Gebhart Farm, where he had worked seven years. He also resided at the farm. The cause of death was not determined as of this morning. Mr. Puffer was born at Crystal Valley, Sept. 17, 1896 and married Edna Mae Webster June 27,1917 in Hart. she died Jan. 18, 1956 Mr. Puffer lived in Montague Township for 18 yrs, and formerly worked in foundries in Muskegon. Surviving are four sons, Niley of Ferry, Gerald and Elgie, both of Montague, and Harold of Twin Lake: five daughter’s. Mrs. Geraldine Jackson and Mrs. Shirley Beckwith, both of rural Whitehall, Mrs. John Lavere of Crawford, Mrs. Bertha Picard of Muskegon, and Miss Betty of Coldwater: four sisters, Mrs. Kitty Makin of Muskegon, Mrs. Angie Fouts and Mrs. Mary Dillingham of Hart, and Mrs. Mina Zimmerman of Grand Rapids; 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The former Margaret MCGowan was married to Loran Tozer in 1903. He died in 1951. Mrs. Tozer was a retired practical nurse. Besides her daughter, she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Driscoll, Detroit, Mrs. Flossie Stout, Muskegon and Mrs. Elizabeth Dellaven, White Cloud; two brothers, Patrick McGowan, Fremont and Edward, White Cloud; 17 grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
